ENGRAVING
What should I engrave on my medical ID jewelry?
When you are deciding what to have engraved on your medical alert jewelry, list what would be the most significant in case of an emergency. Examples might be: “Diabetic”, “Epilepsy”, or “Severe Peanut Allergy”.
It is critical to include the right information for medical responders, which is why custom engraving is so effective. We allow for 5 lines of engraving, however do keep in mind that the more characters and words per line, the smaller the lettering/wording will be.
Should I have my medications engraved on my medical IDs?
Many people have changing medications, however if your medications are long-term and could impact emergency treatment, it's a great idea to include them. If you are Diabetic, it may be important to list if you are either on Insulin or taking a pill form medication such as Metformin. Blood thinners are also useful medications to indicate.
Should I engrave my allergies onto my medical ID?
Definitely! For example, it's important to indicate if you have a PENICILLIN ALLERGY. If you have an allergy that needs an Epipen as a treatment, engrave both the name of the allergy, in addition to: “Use Epipen”.
Engraving Example:
YOUR NAME
MEDICAL CONDITION
ALLERGIES/TREATMENTS
EMERGENCY CONTACT
How do I abbreviate my medical condition for my medical ID jewelry?
The following are examples of some medical abbreviations to be used on your medical ID:
ALGY - Allergy
BP - Blood Pressure
CA - Cancer
CF – Cystic Fibrosis

SIZING & RESIZING
Can I just measure the length of my old bracelet band and order that size?
Every bracelet design is unique and we determine what the best fit will be for that particular style. Please refer to the sizing instructions to determine what your size is. In most cases, we ask for your snug wrist measurement. Need measuring instructions? Check out our measuring guide for tips.
Quick Tip: You may own several different Beaded Daisy bracelets, but when they are all laid out flat together, they may differ in lengths. One of the reasons for this is because each design is unique, and there are factors such as the size of beads to accommodate. This is the reason we ask for your snug wrist measurement, so that we can endeavor to provide you with the best fit.
Can I just guess my wrist size?
We want to ensure you are able to enjoy wearing your medical alert jewelry right away, and want to make sure it fits comfortably. Even one inch either too big or too small can make a difference, so it's best not to guess.
How do I measure my wrist?
Use a soft measuring tape, such as cloth or vinyl. Start at the 0 (zero) and wrap around your wrist snuggly. Take note of what number is across from the 0 (zero). If you don’t have one of these measuring tapes, you can use a piece of string, ribbon, or even dental floss in a pinch, and then compare it to a ruler!
What size bracelet should I order?
We will custom size your bracelet for you based on your snug wrist measurement. That is why all you have to do is select your wrist measurement size on the product page. We will add the appropriate length to accommodate your wrist and provide you with a comfortable fit. These are the steps you need to take if you are ordering an Interchangeable style (NO medical ID Tag) as well.
My bracelet doesn’t fit, can I have it resized?
Absolutely, exchange your unworn medical ID for a different size, in the same style, within 30 days, jewelers fee will be waived. The only cost to you, will be for the return shipping and handling fee as well as postage to send to us. Place in a bubble envelope to the following address:
Beaded Daisy
33 Nolanfield Manor NW
Calgary, AB
T3R 0M3
How do I send my item in to be resized?
1. Remove your medical ID tag, if it’s not affixed. Send in the bracelet portion only.
2. Please contact us at info@beadeddaisy.com and we can assist you on a comfortable fit.
ABOUT MEDICAL ALERT JEWELRY
Which wrist should I wear my medical ID bracelet on? Does it matter to first responders?
You can wear your medical ID bracelet on either wrist—it does not matter to first responders. EMTs and paramedics are trained to check both wrists, as well as the neck, when looking for medical alert identification.
The most important thing is that your medical ID is clearly visible and easy to access in an emergency, regardless of which wrist you choose.
How do medical ID bracelets and necklaces work?
Our medical alert bracelets and necklaces feature custom engraving of your vital information for immediate access during emergencies. Emergency responders are trained to look for the medical caduceus or star of life symbol on the neck and wrists of patients who cannot communicate, ensuring your critical health details are found quickly when needed most.
Who should wear a medical alert, and what conditions require a medical ID?
Anyone with a medical condition, allergy, or health risk that could affect emergency treatment should consider wearing a medical alert. It helps first responders quickly understand important health information when the wearer may not be able to communicate.
Ultimately, a medical alert is recommended for anyone whose health information is critical in an emergency situation.
Common conditions (but not limited to) where a medical alert is especially important include:
- Severe allergies (foods, medications, or insect stings, especially anaphylaxis risk)
- Diabetes - Type 1 or Type 2 (insulin dependent, insulin pump, metformin, etc.)
- Epilepsy or seizure disorders
- Heart conditions (including pacemakers, arrhythmias, or recent cardiac events)
- Blood disorders (such as hemophilia or sickle cell disease)
- Asthma or severe respiratory conditions
- Anticoagulant/blood thinner use (e.g., warfarin, apixaban)
- Implanted medical devices (such as insulin pumps or neurostimulators)
- Adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s disease or steroid dependence)
- Severe drug allergies or medication sensitivities
- Cognitive conditions that may affect communication (such as dementia)
- Hearing & vision impairments
What is the difference between a medical ID and a medical alert?
There is no real difference between a medical ID and a medical alert—both terms are used to describe the same type of jewelry or identification that provides important medical information in an emergency. The terms are often used interchangeably and both refer to bracelets, necklaces, or other accessories engraved with essential health and emergency contact details for first responders.
Whether worn as a bracelet or necklace, this jewelry communicates your essential health information when you're unable to speak for yourself.
Do you have USB or QR code medical IDs?
In most cases, no—first responders do not rely on USBs or QR codes as the primary source of medical information in emergencies.
Emergency Medical Services (EMTs/paramedics) are trained to look for visible, immediately readable medical alert jewelry, such as engraved bracelets or necklaces. The goal is to quickly access critical information without needing extra tools or devices.
QR codes
Some medical IDs include QR codes that link to a digital profile. These can be helpful as a secondary source of information, especially if the wearer is conscious or if responders have time and access to a phone or scanner. However, they are not guaranteed to be used in urgent, time-sensitive situations, and should not replace engraved information.
USB medical IDs
USB-based medical IDs are rarely used in emergency care settings. First responders typically do not plug devices into unknown hardware due to time constraints, infection control protocols, and security concerns.
Best practice
For emergencies, the most reliable medical ID is still one that includes clear, engraved information directly on the jewelry—such as:
- Medical conditions
- Allergies
- Emergency contacts
Digital tools can be a helpful supplement, but engraved medical IDs remain the standard relied upon in the field.
What do interchangeable, non-interchangeable, and mix & match medical ID bracelets mean?
Interchangeable bracelets, may also be called mix & match bracelets, let you swap your custom ID tag between different bracelet strands. Each bracelet has a lobster clasp closure on both ends, so your engraved tag moves freely from one strand to another.
Why choose interchangeable bracelets? Once you own an ID tag, you can build your collection by adding new bracelet strands without purchasing additional tags. If your medical information changes, simply order a new tag and use it with all your existing strands—no need to replace your entire collection.
Non-interchangeable bracelets have the ID tag permanently attached to the strand. The tag and bracelet are one complete unit, so you cannot move the tag between different bracelets.
Why should I wear a medical ID?
In an emergency, every second matters. Whether your medical condition is the cause of the emergency or a factor that could complicate care, EMTs and other first responders need clear information to identify you, provide appropriate treatment, and know what should be avoided. This helps reduce delays and may prevent unnecessary ambulance transport, ER visits, allergic reactions, or other complications.
What information goes on a medical ID?
Each custom-engraved medical ID is unique to the individual wearing it. The purpose of a medical alert is to communicate the most important information that emergency responders need quickly in a medical situation. This varies depending on a person’s specific conditions and needs. For example, the details included for someone with a pacemaker will differ from those for someone with food or drug allergies. In some cases, a medical ID may also include a personal health number (PHN).
When should I wear my medical alert jewelry?
For the best protection, wear your medical alert jewelry every day and in all situations. We design our pieces in multiple styles so you can find one that suits your lifestyle, whether you're at work, exercising, or spending time with family.
Should I have more than one medical ID?
We recommend owning more than one medical ID piece so you always have a backup in case one is lost or misplaced. Many people choose to have a few different medical IDs so they can switch their jewelry to match their mood, style, or activity. It’s also helpful to keep a medical ID information wallet card with you for added peace of mind.
GENERAL
How do I put on and remove my stretch medical ID bracelet?
Attach your favorite beaded bracelet to your custom engraved medical ID tag, then simply slip the combined piece over your hand and onto your wrist.
For best results and to help preserve the life of the elastic, avoid overstretching and handle the bracelet gently during use.
How to put it on:
Bring your fingers together slightly to make your hand as narrow as possible. Then gently roll the bracelet over your fingers and guide it past your thumb until it settles comfortably on your wrist.
How to remove it:
Reverse the process by carefully rolling the bracelet back over your hand and knuckles without pulling or overstretching the band.
Can I have an allergic reaction to gold-filled jewelry?
While gold-filled jewelry is generally well tolerated, individuals with sensitivities or allergies to gold alloys may still experience a reaction. Because gold-filled jewelry contains a bonded outer layer of gold alloy, those who are sensitive to the metals used in gold alloys may notice skin irritation. In some cases, a person's body chemistry can also cause skin discoloration or darkening of the metal when wearing certain types of jewelry.
How do I care for gold filled & sterling silver elements?
To help preserve the beauty of your gold-filled and sterling silver jewelry, avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, chlorine, and excessive moisture. We recommend removing your jewelry before showering, swimming, or exercising. To clean, gently wash with mild soap and water, then dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. When not in use, store each piece separately in a soft pouch or jewelry box to help prevent scratches and maintain its shine.
Do your gold filled products tarnish?
Gold Filled jewelry is highly durable and resistant to tarnishing, making it an excellent choice for everyday wear. While it maintains its beauty longer than many other materials, exposure to harsh chemicals, lotions, perfumes, or prolonged moisture can affect its finish over time. Because Gold Filled jewelry is not solid gold, the outer gold layer may gradually wear or scratch with regular use. With proper care, however, Gold Filled pieces can remain beautiful for many years.
Can I wear my medical ID in the shower, bath, pool, oceans or hot tubs?
We carry many designs, made of various materials. Some medical alert jewelry are more appropriate and water-friendly than others. Any plated, gold plated, plated metals is not recommended to wear in the shower, bath, or any pools/hot tubs, or ocean water. Prolonged contact with water, especially being exposed to chemicals, can gradually diminish the plated layer, which may affect the appearance and longevity of the jewelry. General hand washing is acceptable, but we recommend removing when showering/bathing. Sterling silver won’t tarnish as quickly when kept dry. Dry bracelets/necklaces with a soft cloth if they get wet. Our Velcro line & Dog Tags are 100% waterproof and can be worn in the pool/hot tub.
How do I care for my bracelet created with Swarovski® Crystals pearls?
To safeguard your medical alert jewelry
created with Swarovski® Crystals pearls, refrain from using oil-based skin products, abrasive chemicals, lotions, or perfumes. To preserve your medical ID, avoid exposure to harsh chemicals or oils and always store it in a dry, secure location. Keep your bracelet in its own bag or pouch to prevent contact with other jewelry, which can cause scratches or damage. Additionally, remove your bracelet before showering or bathing, and gently dry it with a soft cloth. To prevent wear and tear on the glass-coated pearls, avoid wearing your bracelet alongside other bracelets and/or watches.
What is an Interchangeable Bracelet?
What better way to keep your look fresh than by owning several designs? Depending on your mood or outfit, you can always feel confident that your important medical information is there, just in case there happens to be a medical emergency!
- The Interchangeable Bracelet is a bracelet strand with a lobster clasp on each end.
- Move your ID Tag around from one bracelet to another depending on your mood and outfit. One tag fits all!
- You can add as many of our Interchangeable Bracelets as you’d like, without having to buy a new ID Tag every time.
- If all you need is a new ID Tag because it needs an update, you can simply purchase a new ID Tag on its own, ready for use with your existing Interchangeable Bracelet strands.
Why doesn’t my medical ID look exactly like the picture?
The bracelets shown in our photos are handcrafted to fit a specific wrist size. If your wrist size differs, the design of your bracelet may need to be slightly adjusted. Gemstones vary naturally from one bead to another.
Does it matter which wrist I wear my medical ID bracelet on?
Most people prefer wearing their medical alert bracelet on their non-dominant hand. Medical responders have indicated that in an emergency, they check both wrists as well as the neck for a necklace. So wear your medical ID where ever it is the most comfortable for you.
I made a mistake on my order, what can I do?
Contact us via email at Info@BeadedDaisy.com and we can help.
What materials do you use to string your medical ID bracelets with?
We use silver colour, 49-strand, nylon coated, micro stainless steel jewelry wire. Stretch bracelets use stretch jewelry stringing materials.
Does stainless steel contain nickel?
Yes, stainless steel jewelry may contain nickel, especially in austenitic grades like 304 and 316. These alloys have a higher nickel content, which improves their durability and resistance to corrosion. However, nickel can cause allergic reactions in some people. If you have sensitivity, consider hypoallergenic options such as 316L stainless steel, which typically has lower nickel levels.
What materials are your medical ID tags made with?
Our medical ID tags are composed of non-medical grade 304 stainless steel. Those with nickel allergies may be sensitive to these materials.

Where can I get medical ID jewelry? Are they available in stores?
The best way to get a medical ID bracelet is to order a custom-engraved piece online rather than purchasing a ready-made option from a brick-and-mortar store.
There are two main reasons for this. First, many store-bought medical IDs are lower in quality and may not be designed for long-term wear. They are often made with base metals that can cause skin irritation or wear down quickly. At Beaded Daisy, we use higher-quality materials such as stainless steel and sterling silver, and all of our pieces are backed by the Beaded Daisy warranty.
Second, in-store medical IDs are usually engraved with very limited information such as “Diabetes” or “See wallet card.” While these details can be useful, they are not as effective as a custom medical ID that includes your name, medical conditions, allergies, and emergency contact information—providing clearer, more complete information in an emergency.
Should I wear a medical ID necklace or bracelet?
The most effective medical alert is one that you feel comfortable wearing, that suits your style, and is engraved with your up-to-date medical conditions and emergency contact details. First responders are trained to check both wrists and the neck, so you can choose any medical alert necklace or bracelet you prefer. We will then size it and custom engrave it specifically for you.
Can I buy just the bracelet or medical ID tag?
Mix and match your bracelets endlessly. Our interchangeable design lets you swap tags and add new pieces whenever inspiration strikes.
Can I order a medical ID bracelet for someone else, such as a family member or friend?
Absolutely! Medical ID jewelry is a thoughtful and meaningful gift. We're happy to resize bracelets to ensure a perfect fit for the recipient.
